According to research conducted by non-profit institutions from the UK, Longevity Science Advisory Panel, the richest men in the world today would average age of 80.4 years. This means six years longer than men who are in socio-economic groups is lower. The gulf in life expectancy between the rich and poor was widening. About 20 years ago, a man who was born of the socio-economic Higher expected to live until age 75.6 years, nearly five years longer than men from socio-economic lower.

Why are men who are rich can live longer? One of the reasons (1 percent), because they have much money, they also have much time to enjoy it. While men with lower incomes tend to live an unhealthy life, according to the study.

The real reason is concerned with how people choose to use the money. From various research institutes concluded that workers with lower incomes tend to smoke, drink more alcohol, and have higher rates of obesity. In 2011, research conducted by the British government in 2009 concluded that there is more than 6,500 deaths in Britain caused by alcohol. The death rate is also highest among the weak economy.

In America, various research institutions show the same trends. Monique Morrissey, an economist who take shelter under the Economic Policy Institute, said that rates of obesity and smoking habits is only part of the story. "These behavioral factors still can not explain the widening gap in life expectancy," said Morrissey.

Access to quality health services is also a major factor. There is a policy which, according to Morrissey will make it worse, the increasing age of the requirements for Medicare and for Social Security retirement age. "This will disproportionately affect the living standards of pensioners with low incomes, who rely on these programs," he said.
