Meat_labConventional farms will have a new competitor. Soon, a Dutch scientist will present the trial results: hamburger with beef is farmed in the laboratory glass plates.

Mark Post, a physiologist at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, said the project was funded by an anonymous investor who is interested in the transformation technology. He believes that the project spent U.S. $ 330 thousand will be a new revolution in the food industry.

"This is a new resource that has the reputation of the money," says Post in Vancouver, Canada, at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

How does it feel? Post stated exactly the same as meat developed in the farm. He promised to invite the media to see his first hamburger will be processed by the famous chef, Heston Blumenthal.

Post breed meat by growing stem cells in a tube of beef, transforming them into thousands of thin layers of beef muscle cells, and blew them into little pieces. Combined with this piece of meat then that was first developed in the laboratory to form lumps of meat ready for consumption is about the size of golf balls.

If the Post and his colleagues succeed, it would mark the triumph technology after years of working to improve the method of the lab meat. This step is aimed at ensuring food security of the world.

According to experts, with increasingly limited land and expense of energy, conventional farms at one point will not be able to meet the needs of citizens of the world. UN data show that consuming 30 percent of farm land on the planet. And over the next 40 years, demand for meat products is expected to double.

If the assumption of the researchers are right, the meat farmed in the laboratory is one way out. "It could reduce the energy expenditure of about 40 percent," said Post. Meat lab will also satisfy the hearts of animal lovers, including PETA, because stem cells can be taken without killing the animal.
